Mastering Pogo Combat

Red Plant Bulbs - Your Key to Navigation

Hunter's March is filled with red plant bulbs that serve as pogo points. You must attack downward while in midair to bounce off them and reach higher platforms.

Pogo Technique:

1. Jump: Get airborne near a red plant bulb

2. Attack Downward: Press attack while holding down

3. Bounce: You'll bounce upward off the bulb

4. Chain: Continue to next bulb or platform

Pro Tips:

Switch to Wanderer Crest for faster, more responsive attacks

Use the floating mechanic to adjust trajectory mid-air

Practice timing - hitting too early or late can be fatal

Look ahead - plan your pogo route before jumping

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1 Travel to the Marrow

Fast Travel Setup

From Greymoor, drop down almost to the bottom of the shaft and use the Bellway to fast travel back to the Marrow. This provides the proper entry point to Hunter's March.

Direction: Head all the way right until you reach the Marrow's shorter shaft with the stepladder

2 Defeat the Skarrgard (Giant Ant)

Mini-Boss Encounter

Before entering Hunter's March proper, you'll face a large ant warrior called a Skarrgard. This enemy is extremely aggressive and deals double damage.

Combat Strategy:

Stay Close: Keep close to the Skarrgard for better positioning

Dodge Backwards: When he swings, dodge away

Duck Under: When he leaps, dodge beneath him

Key Points:

Low health pool - fight won't take long

Swift Step and Wanderer Crest make this easier

Plenty of attack opportunities after dodging

After Victory: Collect Shell Shard caches in the upper area beyond the arena, then rest at the prison Bench (where you freed Grindle) for easy return access.

3 Pogo Up to the Captive Flea

First Major Pogo Section

Now begins the real Hunter's March experience. You'll encounter your first major pogo challenge with red plant bulbs leading to a vertical fork in the path.

Navigation Steps:

Follow the Path: Pogo up all the red plants until you reach a vertical fork

Take Left Path: Choose the left-side path upwards

Avoid Flying Ants: Evade the flying ant enemies as you climb

Rescue Flea: Break the cage past the spikes to free the captive flea

Next Step: After freeing the flea, carefully descend and take the right-hand path upwards off-screen.

4 Reach the Gauntlet with Shakra

Map Merchant Encounter

Navigate through more pogo challenges to reach a special gauntlet where Shakra the map-maker will assist you in combat and offer to sell you the Hunter's March map.

Getting There:

1. Pogo upward to reach the high left ledge

2. Collect Rosary strings guarded by patrolling ant

3. Head right, kill/bypass soldier ant

4. Attack rope to dislodge Rosary Necklace

The Gauntlet:

Pogo over spikes to enter the arena

Shakra joins you after the first wave

Let her handle most combat while you dodge

Purchase map for 70 Rosaries after victory

5 Navigate to Next Bench & Disarm Trap

Trapped Bench Warning

Continue through more spike-filled pogo sections to reach the next bench. Be aware that this bench has a trap that spawns an ant behind you when you rest.

Path Details:

Attack webs above for free Silk

Choose path: Upper (fighting) or lower (pogo-ing)

Climb up via red plant trail when paths converge

Watch for ant spawning behind you

Trap Mechanics: When you rest at this bench, an ant enemy will spawn behind you. Be ready to fight immediately after resting, or clear the area first.

6-7 Meet Gilly & Find Mottled Scarr

Meet Gilly

Navigate to the dancer statue area where you'll encounter Gilly, an NPC who provides context about the area and its dangers.

Located by the distinctive dancer statue - hard to miss

Mottled Scarr Secret

Discover Mottled Scarr hidden in a secret passage. This encounter provides valuable lore and may offer items or upgrades.

Look for hidden walls or breakable sections

8 Unlock Shortcut to Deep Docks

Important Connection Point

Discover and activate the shortcut connection between Hunter's March and Deep Docks. This provides valuable backtracking options for future exploration.

Navigation Tip: This shortcut becomes crucial for accessing different areas efficiently and may be required for certain quest completions.

9-10 Chapel of the Beast & Savage Beastfly

Final Challenge Area

Enter the Chapel of the Beast for the ultimate Hunter's March challenge - a complex parkour section followed by one of the toughest early-game bosses in Silksong.

Chapel Parkour Challenge:

Follow air currents upward and to the right

Use red plants for pogo navigation

Crumbling ground - jump quickly after landing

Activate shortcut lever after completing parkour

Savage Beastfly Boss Guide

Toughest Early-Game Boss

The Savage Beastfly deals double damage with all attacks and features aggressive charging combos in both horizontal and vertical directions.

Essential: Use the Wanderer Crest for quick attacks and better pressure.

Phase 1 Strategy:

Combat Approach:

Stay Close: Maintain pressure with quick attacks

Minimal Dodging: Only dodge just enough to avoid damage

Combo Punishment: Strike once after each dodge during combos

Wall Slam Strategy:

Position Near Wall: Stay close when it starts horizontal charge

Three-Hit Window: Land 3 strikes after wall slam recovery

Phase 2 - Reinforcement Phase:

The Most Dangerous Phase:

The Savage Beastfly begins calling in reinforcement enemies, making the battle significantly more chaotic. Your strategy must adapt to handle multiple threats simultaneously.

Key Strategy:

Bait Floor Slam: Lure the Beastfly into performing its floor slam attack on spawned minions

Why This Works:

The Beastfly's floor slam instantly kills any minion it hits

General Combat Tips:

Patience

Don't rush the fight. Take your time and focus on survival over aggressive damage dealing.

Positioning

Stay close to walls when possible to maximize damage windows after wall slams.

Persistence

This is one of the hardest early fights - don't give up! Victory is achievable with practice.

Beast Crest Reward

Beast Crest Abilities

  • Powerful Swiping Slash: Enhanced attack with wider range
  • Lifesteal Bind: Temporarily converts Bind into a healing attack
  • New Midair Attack: Rolling downward attack replaces standard pogo

Important Adaptation Notice

The Beast Crest automatically equips and changes your midair downward attack mechanics significantly.

Practice Recommended: Spend time getting used to the new rolling attack before leaving Hunter's March, as it affects pogo navigation.
