The Mist Overview
What Makes The Mist Unique
- No Map: The first area in Silksong without any map available
- Dynamic Layout: Structure changes each time you enter

Golden Moth Navigation System
The Secret to Navigation
The golden moths floating in each area are your guides through The Mist. They will show you the correct path, but only if you communicate with them properly.
How to Use Moths:
1. Spot the Moth: Look for golden moths floating in each room
2. Equip Needolin: Make sure you have the Needolin equipped as your tool
3. Play Music: Use Needolin near the moth for a couple seconds
4. Follow Direction: The moth will indicate which entrance to take
Navigation Tips:
Each room has one moth - find it before exploring exits
The Needolin must be actively used, not just equipped
Moths will clearly indicate direction - watch their movement
Don't rush - wait for the moth's full guidance response
Silk-Stealing Wraith Combat
Dangerous Ghost Enemies
The Mist is populated with wraith enemies that scream before charging at you. If they grab you, they'll deal damage, steal your silk, and attempt deadly chain grabs.
Feedback Issue: Hit feedback may seem ineffective, but you CAN kill these enemies!
Combat Strategies:
Method 1: Pogo Attack
Jump Over: Leap over their charging attack
Downward Attack: Attack downward to pogo off them
Repeat: Takes 3 hits with x2 Pale Oil needle
Method 2: Thread Storm
Highly Effective: Thread Storm "absolutely messes them up"
Range Advantage: Keep distance while dealing damage
Tool Weapons: All tool weapons are especially effective
Silk Management:
Scarcity
Silk is limited in The Mist - conserve and use strategically.
Recovery
Hit cocoons after dying for full bar, find thread spools throughout.
From Enemies
Defeating ghosts can drop small amounts of silk.
Environmental Hazards
Spike Traps:
Ground Spikes: Spring up from the floor unexpectedly
Ceiling Spikes: Drop down from above
Bear Traps: Hidden mechanical traps on pathways
Fog Hazard:
Bottom Fog: Avoid falling into the fog at the bottom of rooms
Reset Penalty: Touching fog transports you back to the start
Progress Lost: You'll need to restart The Mist entirely
Survival Tips
Stay Alert: Watch for trap indicators and sudden movements
Test Platforms: Jump carefully on suspicious surfaces
Stick to Heights: Avoid the bottom fog areas entirely

Step-by-Step Walkthrough
1 Enter The Mist
Entry Points:
Bilewater: Left of the Bellway station
Sinner's Road: Top exit of the area
Preparation:
Ensure Needolin is equipped and ready to use
2 Navigate First Rooms (1-3)
The first section consists of 4-5 rooms total, with varying layouts each time you enter. Focus on finding the golden moth in each room before attempting to proceed.
Room Navigation Process:
Find
Locate golden moth
Play
Use Needolin 2-3 seconds
Watch
Observe moth's direction
Follow
Take indicated path
3 Moth Corridor Interlude
Special Transition Room:
After the first few rooms, you'll reach a corridor where you run past multiple moths one by one. This serves as an interlude between the first and second halves of The Mist.
Keep Moving: This section is more linear - follow the obvious path
4 Second Half - Increased Dangers
Escalating Difficulty:
The second half features 3-4 more rooms with increasing numbers of wraith enemies and more complex platforming challenges.
Increased Threats:
More Wraiths: Multiple ghosts per room
Complex Traps: Layered spike arrangements
Tight Platforms: More precise jumping required
Survival Strategy:
Clear wraiths before finding moths when possible
Use Thread Storm liberally - silk conservation less critical
Take your time - patience prevents fog falls
5 Exit to Exhaust Organ
Reaching Your Destination
After successfully navigating all rooms of The Mist, you'll emerge at the Exhaust Organ - a short dungeon area that leads to the final boss of Act 1.
Immediate Actions:
Go straight down the corridor
Then up and to the left
Find and rest at the bench
Why the Bench Matters:
Permanent Progress: Resting here ensures you never have to navigate The Mist again, even if you die to the upcoming final boss.
